MSSNY Applauds Important Measures in the NYS Budget that Will Improve Patient Access to Care
April 3, 2019, Westbury, NY—The physician community thanks the New York State Legislature and Governor Cuomo for enacting a number of important measures in the State Budget to improve patient access to care, as well as agreeing to reject a number of proposals that could have adversely impacted timely patient access to needed care and treatment.
The new State Budget provides important new health insurance coverage protections for patients suffering from mental health conditions and substance abuse disorder. These new provisions also provide important new protections for their physicians and other health care providers who advocate on their patients’ behalf.
MSSNY also thanks the many legislators who fought to prevent significant cuts to physicians and other health care providers who treat patients covered by both Medicare and Medicaid—who are the elderly and the poor. Importantly, their efforts also resulted in the rejection of a proposal that would have imposed new prior authorization requirements on physicians and other care providers when they prescribe certain medications to their patients insured under the Medicaid program.
We look forward to working with legislative leaders and Governor Cuomo on further measures to enhance patient access to needed care and treatments from the physician of their choice.
